Power BI is a great tool for those that need to analyze data, but not all users are equal in their knowledge of PowerPivot, Excel or the underlying data sources. Some users just want to see and act on data. In the current model, users have to have a PowerBI license to even see a report. So, instead of building or buying a separate visualization layer to go over SSAS or SSRS, why not make PowerView extensible? Give me a very economical or even free limited user tier that can only consume web reports, but no Excel access. You can even assume these users are E2/E3 subscribers. Next, let me embed PowerView reports in a webpage and license concurrent users / access for external users to access report in a view-only fashion. In either case, exporting the underlying report data would be a great bonus. Go a step beyond a simple embed and create an API to design contextual embeds that pre-filter or scope a PowerView chart based on GET parameters. All in all, if PowerBI is going to be an end to end reporting solution, make it that way by design. I need not only the enhanced data analytics capabilities, but the ability to profilerate a pre-packaged, actionable view of the data to a broader, less technical (and hopefully less costly) audience. ... In Power Query in Excel and in the Designer, the current implementation of "From Salesforce Report" is useless due to the Salesforce 2000 row limitation. Please push them to raise that. And please figure out how internally inside Power Query you can retrieve the first 2000 rows, then the next 2000 rows, etc. to get all the rows. Also please allow us to push filters to Salesforce so that the 2000 rows that are returned are from the date range we want. Allowing us to pass filters would let us iterate over a date table and run the report once for each day and then append the results, thus working around the 2000 row limit. ... View more

It would be really nice if a Fabric capacity can auto-pause & auto-resume. Auto-pause: if there's no activity for a specified time interval, the capacity shuts down (dropping any caches, this is expected behavior). Auto-resume: if there's some request (a SQL/KQL query, a notebook cell that starts, a directlake request from Power BI, ...), the capacity automatically resumes AND serves the request without throwing an error. Some latency can be expected because the capacity needs to start obviously, and it's a cold start so there's no caching. Description: We are currently facing challenges with monitoring our Power BI instances due to the absence of the memory consumption metric in the capacity metrics app. The current CU consumption metric does not provide a complete picture, leading to gaps in monitoring and difficulties in identifying issues with our Power BI reports. Problem Statement: Previously, the capacity metrics app provided insights into memory consumption, which allowed us to effectively monitor and manage our Power BI instances. However, with the removal of this metric, we are now unable to fully understand the behavior of our instances based solely on CU consumption. This has resulted in a lack of comprehensive monitoring and has impacted our ability to address performance issues promptly. Allow us to save unused CUs and spend them at a later time. Currently, Fabric allows us to carry forward overages, but it doesn’t allow us to carry forward unused capacity. I propose enabling the carryforward of unused capacity as well, so that if we consume less in one time period, the unused CUs can be rolled over, allowing for higher consumption in subsequent periods. Attending PASS Community Summit and hearing both ADF presenters Todd McDermid and Martin Schoombee both talk about the lack of support in the Web Activity and personally experiencing the pain of this missing capability, it seems like this would be a significant contribution to the product. As more and more data engineers are being faced with REST API connection from the classic relational database connection, this feature becomes more appreciated. It SEEMS like an easy addition, but I suspect, as always, things are a little more complicate than we'd think. Microsoft, please let us know whether there are roadblocks or key infrastructure redesign that necessitates this waiting - we are pretty understanding. I will connect with some vocal ADF data engineers and see if you could add a vote and perhaps some dialogue on how this would make them happier. Currently, databases are randomly assigned to a pool of logical servers and there is not a way to group databases under same logical server name. Please allow us to see all the SQL databases listed under the same logical server name. It would be ideal to create one connection to the server name.
