Power BI Error: 'The key didn't match any rows in the table' โ€“ What does this mean and how do I fix

Hi everyone,
Someone in my team made some updates to the data model. I believed he rename some fields and it was published to workspace.
I have change the data source to the newest one that is published in the workspace, but I am still seeing this error:

I don't really understand what the issue is here and how can I fix it?

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi @Zhinee ,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Community.

Even though your data model may look fine in the service, if any queries in Power Query are broken, the dataset may only partially load or not at all. This causes downstream failures for visuals in reports, DAX queries, scheduled refreshes. The DAX query fails because the table isn't loading properly in the data model, and that failure is likely caused by an error in Power Query.

Try these troubleshooting steps:

Go to Transform Data > Power Query Editor.

Look for A query named JANUS_SESSION_TRANS, or any query that references it in its steps, you might see Expression.Error: The key didn't match any rows in the table.

See whether the table was renamed in the source (SQL, folder, etc.) if so, update the name in Power Queryโ€™s source step. If it was removed, delete or replace the query or If other queries reference it, update them to point to the correct one. And now ensure all queries load without errors in Power Query. Once fixed save the PBIX file and re-publish to your Power BI workspace.

If this post helps, please give us Kudos and consider marking it Accept as solution to assist other members in finding it more easily.

Regards,
Chaithra.

@Zhinee The key didn't match any rows in the table," typically indicates that there is a mismatch between the data model and the data source. This can happen if fields have been renamed or removed, as you mentioned.

Check if column name is same or are column of same data type

I was trying to see if the issue came from the data model or my report
So I went to the data model on the service, and run the DAX query to retreive the Session records,

Then I am seeing the "The key didn't match any rows in the table error" again.

I am confused on how to fix this, does it mean there is probably some a mismatch in the power query from the data model?
