Learning powerBi with some experience with tableau

I have used PowerBi reports as an end user but where I am working, I got a license and like to know how to make reports. Have some experience with Tableau in report building and am not sure if the concepts could be transferable. Is there a knowledge migration for such users?

Hi @JonathanBrotto

Thank you for choosing Power BI!

Agree with VijayP and ray_aramburo, Power BI and Tableau are different ecosystems and it is recommended that you learn about Power BI from scratch. Here are some of the shares I found for you on migrating from Tableau to Power BI, hope it helps you:

The theory fundamentals of data analysis and data modelling remain the same but I would recommend to just start from scratch as they are different tools. For instance, all visuals in Tableau consume data from "a single table" so to speak, that means that there's a lot of data massaging, transformation, joining, etc. that needs to happen beforehand, whereas in Power BI you can build models ressembling data bases allowing for flexibility.

I recommend going through this course. Although it's a preparation for certification it starts from scratch and covers all the basic and major aspects you need to know from Power BI and it includes several (free) labs to practice 🙂

@JonathanBrotto

Tableau and powerbi are two different eco systems. So there is not true translation or conversion not possible. However the based on the logic used in business you can understand how to recreate the report which you were consuming as a viewer in Power BI
